Post by mahassI've got a problem with my Roland RD 600 Digital piano: the hammers
tend to break frequently. I've changed about 20 hammers so far. Anybody
else got that probblem?
I have read that is a common problem with the type of action (P4?)
used in the RD-600, RD-550, FP-8, etc.
I don't think the word "hammer" is valid here, there is nothing like
an acoustic piano hammer striking non-existing strings. What breaks is
the lever supporting each key's (counter)weights.
I have an RD-550 that I bought brand new and saw very little use.
I have broken two counterweights, which I repaired, not replaced, and
when I opened the keyboard to do so I noticed that several others were
already cracked.
What I am planning to do someday, is to open it again, disassemble all
keys, and reinforce all levers by gluing a thin layer of wood or
aluminum on each side. Something light enough to be of negligible
weight compared to the metallic weight at the end of the lever, but
strong enough to stop this annoyance.
There is a Yahoo group dedicated to this type of keyboards, you may
find some advice there.
Hope this helps...
