This may sound a bit off the wall but. . .all you can do is try.

I'm an American and a very serious amateur pianist. In the last
month I've given an informal recital, twice, once in my home, once in
an arts center, including works by Mozart, Schubert, Chopin and
Rachmaninoff. I am a few weeks from retirement and actually hope to
spend 1-2 days a week giving lessons then.

Now on Friday I'm going to Europe. About 10 days in Italy, 5 in
France--specifically in Milan, Bergamo, San Remo, Nice, and Paris. I
would really be delighted to find anywhere in any of those places
where I could a little playing, and maybe listening, with other
pianists. But I have no idea how to begin. Who knows, maybe even some
one on this group lives in one of those places.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Have you tried through some U.S. amateur musicians association similar
to CAMMAC (Canadian Amateur Musicians)? They might have some contacts
with European associations.

You could bait a hook with a Steinway B and dangle it from a
skyscraper until they bite.
