Roland KR-377 questions
(too old to reply)

Hello Everyone,
I was at a piano store the other day looking at a Roland KR-377, and they
told me that it was an older Roland model (as the KR-3 is newer). Does
anyone have any idea of how old these are, and what type of price range I
should expect to pay for one? They told me that it was only rented out to
someone, but never owned it so they want close to $2500 for it. Does this
mean that the renter had to take good care of the digital piano (just as
someone who leases a car) and would it be a safe way to go versus getting a
new digital piano? The newer KR-3 only has 2 pedals, whereas the older
KR-377 had 3 pedals. Does anyone own/play one of these? Is it reliable?

I compared it to a new Yamaha YDP-223 and the Roland sounded and felt much
better (and looked way better as well).

For those of you who remember, I once considered purchasing a Baldwin RP-200
and I have reconsidered this purchase...Thanks to those who helped me to see
why the Baldwin price was so low on the internet!!

Thanks to anyone who may be able to help answer any of my questions.

$2500 sounds about right. We had a KR-377 in earlier this year that we
took in trade so I've had a chance to play one. The KR-377 is several
steps above the YDP-223 so it's pretty much a different animal.

Thanks Glenn,
Your comments are always helpful. Could you recommend any particular
Roland/Yamaha/Kawai digital models that
are excellent in sound quality and is priced in the range from $1500 -
$2500?

The main considerations are 88-key progressive hammer action, 64-note (or
greater) polyphony, MIDI, and a very nice looking piano cabinet.
(I asked the same thing in a reply to the "Baldwin Digital Pianos" Post but
you probably did not see it since there are so many replies there now.)

I have a roland KR-375 which doesn't have as many bells and whistles. I
paid almost $4000 brand new when I got it. The newer models generate
accompnament that sounds more contemporary. Mine sounds a little dated like
music from the late 70's.. Is there anybody at the store that can demo both
of them for you? Mine has 3 pedals, but I have only used 2 of them and
mostly use the damper pedal only. But some music calls for more, for
example, stuff written by Eric Satie. I have never had a problem with mine,
and really enjoy playing it. As far as price range - what are they selling
for on Ebay?

Thanks jbo,
I could not find this Roland on eBay the other day, but I'll keep looking.
I will probably go back to the piano store and try to compare both the KR-3
and the KR-377 (if it's still there). Take care.
