One of my friends has an old piano she might want to sell. It's a Georg
Schwechten, Hof-Pianoforte - Fabrikant J.K.H. der Frau Prinzessin Fredrich
Carl von Preussen (1812-1875). The number on the piano - 20272 which
means circa 1871-1890. Something else written on the piano is "Berlin 61.
Koch-Strasse - 61.

Any idea how much it is worth? We're near San Francisco, California.

I have no idea how much it's worth. However, based upon my experience
reading this newsgroup, I would advise you not to get your hopes up.

Is it a vertical piano, grand piano, or square and flat, like a table?

It's an upright. I'm told it's too wide for normal doorways. I'll ask
her later today if it is square or flat, but if it were she probably would
have told me.

A family of Berlin piano manufacturers, Georg being one of the (better)
seniors. Mostly living room decoration rather than concert quality, and
prices vary with the looks - I've seen plain ones go for less than $300
in Germany, but they had luxury models with exquisite woodwork which
would be considerably more expensive.

Hard to tell - unless it has luxury woodwork, it probably is not worth
national or global shipping, and you'd better ask local piano stores or
experts, as prices for that kind of instrument vary with local supply
and demand.
