Post by David Samuel BarrPost by Aage JohansenPost by Pavel SvinchnikMany years ago I heard a pianist (probably Victor Borge) play variations
on "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." The first version was in the simple nursery
rhyme style, followed by renditions in the styles of Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, et al.
My piano skills aren't at the point where I could improvise something
like that so I've googled around for the sheet music for the variations but
couldn't find anything.
Does anyone know of a source for that?
Thanks,
Paul
Could also have been Dudley Moore
No, it was Alford's "Colonel Bogey March" that Dudley
Moore played in the style of Beethoven as "And the Same

I'm not aware of a published set of "Twinkle Twinkle"
variations such as the original poster describes; there
are of course all kinds of variations on that tune by
assorted composers, from Mozart and Von Schacht to
Dohnanyi and Suzuki, but none I'm aware of are in
imitation of other composers. However, in that vein
there are two popular sets of variations on "Mary Had a
Little Lamb" in the style of other composers written by
Harvard music professor Edward Ballantine, which while
long out of print can still be found pretty readily if
one looks in libraries or on used book sites. The
initial set was published in 1924, and a second set in
1943. Maybe that would suit your purposes as well.
Thank you very much for the reference. I found it on Amazon and purchased a copy.
What I heard was probably "Mary Had A Little Lamb" but after 50+ years didn't remember correctly.
